Walter-Michael Vollhardt is, indeed, a master among cellists. The perfection shown in his performances of sonatas by Valentini, Hindemith (Solo-Sonata op. 25, No 3), Debussy and Strauss was truly amazing. And the tremendously intense expressiveness of his playing with its broad gamut ranging from splendidly heroic fortissimo to pianissimo was no less remarkable.
